Track Lighting Guide: 1-Phase or 3-Phase Track?

Track lighting is a flexible way to illuminate homes, offices and retail spaces. The fixtures can be moved along the track, making it easy to direct light where it is needed.

1-phase track lighting for homes

A 1-phase track is a straightforward choice for most homes. All fixtures on the track are controlled by the same circuit, so installation and everyday use are simple. It works well in living rooms, kitchens, hallways and smaller commercial spaces.

3-phase track lighting for flexible control

A 3-phase track allows the fixtures to be divided between separate circuits. This is useful when different areas need to be switched independently, for example in shops, galleries and larger workspaces.

Surface-mounted or recessed track

Surface-mounted tracks are quick to install and suit most renovation projects. Recessed tracks create a more integrated look when the ceiling structure allows them.

How to choose the right fixtures

Consider the required brightness, beam angle and colour temperature. A wide beam is suitable for general lighting, while a narrow beam helps highlight a table, display or artwork. For a comfortable home atmosphere, warm white light around 2700–3000 K is often a good starting point.

Plan the installation carefully

Check the track length, power supply, fixture compatibility and switching needs before ordering. If the installation involves new wiring or a 3-phase system, use a qualified electrician.
