What are LED-colour temperatures of lights, or Kelvins?

LED-burnersLED-lamps and LED-tapes are commonly used in homes, offices, shops and public spaces as lighting fixtures. One of the main factors affecting LED-lighting effect is their colour temperature, measured in Kelvin (K).

Kelvin describes the colour temperature of light, which is expressed numerically. The higher the value, the cooler or bluer the light appears. Conversely, the lower the value, the warmer or more yellowish the light appears.

The four most common LED-2700K, 3000K, 4000K and 5700K

  • 2700K Very warm white: This color temperature is equivalent to traditional incandescent and fluorescent lamps. 2700K is very warm and gives a soft and cosy light. It is popular in bedrooms, living rooms and dining rooms. It gives the interior of your home a natural and warm atmosphere.

  • 3000K Warm White: 3000K is perhaps the most popular colour temperature for home living spaces, especially living rooms, bedrooms etc. It is slightly cooler than 2700K, but still warm and cosy.

  • 4000K Neutral white: 4000K is equivalent to natural light, and is a neutral and cooler colour temperature than 2700K and 3000K. It is a good choice for kitchens, bathrooms and work spaces such as offices and shops, as it helps keep the mind refreshed and focused. Neutral white 4000K also looks pure white, which means that it does not turn white kitchens, for example, blue or yellow like other colour temperatures, and is therefore the most popular choice for lighting kitchen partitions, for example.

  • 5700K Cold white: 5700K is a very cold and bluish colour temperature, equivalent to bright daylight. This colour temperature is suitable for places where intense light is needed, such as hospitals, laboratories and garages. This cool white 5700K lighting can also be used in homes if desired. The easiest shades of cool white to use in the home are those with colour temperature control LED-This is the easiest way to change the cold light to a warmer shade in the evening.

If you don't want to choose a single colour temperature, then tunable white LED-luminaires are handy because they offer the possibility to adjust the colour temperature of the light. Adjusting the colour temperature is usually done with a remote control (Easy RF 2.4G series or our RF WiFi series) or a smartphone app, and can be infinitely variable or often with predefined settings e.g. Zigbee controllers..

Tunable White

CCT i.e. LEDs with adjustable colour temperature

Tuneable LEDs allow you to adjust the lighting to suit both the colour temperature and the dimming level at any given moment.

Colour temperature adjustable CCT LEDs have two LEDs, a very warm white (usually 2700K) and a cool white (usually 6000K), which can either be alternated in a strip or in the same LED chip. For example CCT colour temperature adjustable LED-strip then has 3 wires, +, WW (warm white) and CW (cold white), the ratio between which is controlled by the light controllers. So with the light controllers, the colour temperature can be adjusted, usually continuously, by controlling which LED burns more efficiently and if both LEDs are on equally brightly then the colour temperature of the mixture of warm and cold white will be in between, i.e. around 4500K. In addition, light controllers can be used to dim the LEDs to create different lighting effects. Colour temperature adjustable LEDs are available, for example.CCT LED-,CCT flush-mounted LED-lamps and CCT LED-tapes.

The stepless control allows you to adjust the colour temperature exactly to your liking and change it as needed for different situations. For example, when you want to relax, you can adjust the light to a warmer setting, while when you're working you may need a brighter, more neutral light. Adjusting the colour temperature can also be useful if you want to create a particular mood or vibe in a space. For example, during a romantic dinner, you can adjust the light to be warm and soft, while during a party you can adjust it to be brighter and more energetic.

Most colour temperature controls LED-Most of our colour temperature control luminaires offer colour temperature control between 2700K and 6500K. This means that you can choose any colour temperature between very warm white and very cool white. It should also be noted that in addition to the colour temperature LED-The luminous flux, or lumens, of the lights affects how bright the light looks. Luminous flux is measured in lumens, and the higher the value, the brighter the light appears.

LED-The combination of the colour temperature and luminous intensity of a light has a major influence on the type of light that is appropriate for a given situation. When you choose LED-luminaires, you should consider their colour temperature, light output and light distribution to get the best possible lighting for your needs.

In summary LED-The colour temperature of a light affects the way it looks and the mood it creates. 2700K ultra warm white, 3000K warm white, 4000K neutral white and 5700K cool white are common colour temperatures used to LED-The colours used in luminaires. tunable white LED-They offer the possibility to adjust the colour temperature of the light according to your needs and create the exact atmosphere or mood you want.
